2009 USAC Champion Frankoski Tapped for Curtain Call

Hickory, NC (March 24, 2010) – 2009 USAC Champion Jeremy Frankoski collected his sixth career USAC win after receiving a last minute call to compete in the season opening USAC Midwest/Carolina “Shootout” Ford Focus race held at Hickory Motor Speedway on March 24, 2010!

Frankoski was recalled to the USAC series just the day before to drive one of several Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Joe Gibbs Oil Ford Focus Midgets that he competed against last year.  “We were at the shop until 3 am this morning getting the cars ready,” Jeremy stated.  “I did a lot of hopping in and out of different cars back in my NEMA (Northeastern Midget Association) days so I figured I had a decent shot at quickly adapting to this new ride.”

After a brief practice session, Frankoski qualified second fastest in time trials and went on to finish second in his heat race.  “We had to use the same tires for the feature, so I didn’t want to burn them up trying to pass for the lead in the heat,” Frankoski continued.  The inverted start for the 30 lap feature left him starting in fifth.

The lead group of top six qualifiers wasted little time once the green flag dropped.  They began dicing for the lead immediately and by the time the group completed lap one, an exciting four car battle was underway.  Frankoski had his hands full with 2008 Focus Champion and last year’s teammate Bradley Riethmeyer as the two battled each other while trying to overcome race leader Scott Hunter.

Frankoski, ultimately victorious from the battle with Riethmeyer, took the lead from Hunter on lap 9. By the half way point, Frankoski had extended his lead over now second place Riethmeyer to a full straight away.  Caution on lap 19 ended Frankoski’s cruise to the checkers and brought the two back in contact to restart the duel.

“My car was getting tight in one and two and with these Focus cars, it’s all about maintaining momentum,” Jeremy lamented.  “My car bogged down in the corner and Bradley got a good run off of two.”  Riethmeyer was finally able to pass Frankoski for the lead at the end of the back stretch with 6 laps to go.

Although Riethmeyer went on to finish the race ahead of Frankoski, his car was disqualified during the post race inspection.  The official USAC posting credits Jeremy Frankoski leading the final 21 laps with Scott Hunter finishing second followed by Adam Wilsdon, Mike Ward and Andy Nock completing the top five.

Jeremy Frankoski, who currently does not have any firm plans to continue competing in USAC events this year, is looking forward to next week when he takes his first green flag in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series on April 3 at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina.  Frankoski will be driving a Late Model owned by NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Chad McCumbee and will be competing as part of a two car team that includes driver Terry Evans.

Force Multiplier: Frankoski Joins Chad McCumbee Racing

Huntersville, NC (For Immediate Release) – 2009 USAC Champion Jeremy Frankoski and Chad McCumbee Racing, Inc. (CMR) will combine forces in 2010 to compete in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina.  The CMR team will expand to a two car operation with the addition of Frankoski as they prepare for a second successful season racing in the historic half mile track’s premier late model stock car division.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity to work with CMR this season,” stated Frankoski.  “I’ve done very well in open wheel racing on dirt and asphalt, but these full body stock cars are something I’ve wanted to get more experience with.  I’m looking forward to growing with [CMR] and adding to the team’s success in 2010.”

Jeremy Frankoski comes to CMR after a stellar 2009 season driving the Calico Coatings USAC Ford Focus Midget in which he scored 5 wins during his Championship run.  Frankoski also captured 6 pole qualifications and 10 top five finishes in the hotly contested Carolina Series.  He was ultimately honored by USAC as the Carolina Series Rookie of the Year.

In just their second year since owner and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Chad McCumbee founded the CMR Late Model Stock Car team, the group isn’t bashful about setting their goals at the highest levels.  “The excitement and expectations are really high for 2010 and I can’t wait to get it going,” McCumbee emphasized.  “We’re going out there to win the Championship and another Rookie of the Year!”

The CMR line up also includes returning driver Terry Evans.  In 2009, Evans posted 10 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes on his way to winning the Myrtle Beach Late Model Division Rookie of the Year title!  “We learned so much each time we run last year and I think we have applied some really good stuff to kick off this year,” Evans said. “It will be great to have a team car there to bounce ideas off of and share notes each week.  We should be really strong.”

CMR was founded primarily for the purpose of providing driver development opportunities in a sport that is increasingly becoming more difficult for new talent to move into.  “It’s really gratifying when you build something up and start to see it growing stronger and stronger,” said McCumbee.  “This is a tough sport and knowing you can help someone further their career with a driver development type program means a lot.”

Prior to racing USAC Midgets, Jeremy Frankoski completed two highly successful seasons with the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA) where he was honored as the 2007 NEMA Rookie of the Year.  Frankoski is one of only three drivers in NEMA’s 57 year history to win a race in their rookie year and he is the fastest to do so winning after only 6 races.  Frankoski also has 6 years of open wheel experience on dirt where he garnered 20 feature wins driving 600 Mini Sprints and Tobias Slingshots.

South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach Speedway, originally named Rambi Raceway was built in 1958.  Ever since its inception, the racetrack has been the training grounds for some of NASCAR’s biggest stars.  Four generations of Petty’s and three generations of Earnhardt’s have all taken a green flag at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Jeff Gordon is also a former track record holder.  The racing season gets underway at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday, April 3.
